Krauatungalung Walk Stages 2-4, Lakes Entrance VIC

This project involved the construction of a 2.5 km elevated boardwalk in a sensitive ecological zone near Lakes Entrance, VIC.

The Project

The project required constructing a 2.5 km elevated boardwalk in an environmentally sensitive area near Lakes Entrance. The challenge arose when residents raised concerns about the proposed boardwalk alignment, specifically potential negative impacts on the environment and the community’s visual landscape.

The Approach

We partnered with ecological consultants to design a boardwalk that minimised environmental disturbance. Working closely with East Gippsland Shire Council, we assisted them with ongoing negotiations with residents, offering multiple design alternatives. Our options included an adjusted alignment which attempted to preserve the natural beauty of the area but also attempted to address noise and visual concerns and improved the conditions of the foreshore.

The Result

The redesigned boardwalk aspired to meet budget parameters while attempting to balance both the environmental standards and the community’s expectations. The new design options hoped to improve the lake’s foreshore while creating a boardwalk that was practical and aesthetically pleasing.
